On July 23, 2007, Washington State’s expansion of the Children’s Health Program for immigrant kids took effect.
Now all children in families with income below 200% of the federal poverty level qualify for full medical coverage at no cost. Children in families with income between 200% FPL and 250% FPL without creditable insurance qualify for the Children’s Health Insurance Program with small premiums.
In 2009, the program is scheduled to expand to 300% FPL, and those above that level will be able to purchase the insurance at full price.
Northwest Health Law Advocates has promoted expansion of this program by reporting on the need for broader coverage, providing legislative analysis, and leading advocacy on the implementation of the new program.
